Cat Tales

Cotton Eye Joe may be a bunny but Just Cats Sanctuary would never turn away a friend in need.  Joe gets a special mention on our Cat Tales Page!  Read all about it below.

Cotton Eye Joe was found on the side of the road late Monday evening.  He was flopping around and disoriented.  He had been hit by a car and he miraculously survived.

I didn't have a carrier with me and he was so feisty, so I took off my sweatshirt and scooped him up.  I checked on him through out the night and took him to the vet first ting Tuesday morning.  He may or may not recover.  He needs to go for more testing, but he eats well and he is in good spirits.  Our hope is, we can nurse him back to health and release him back to his home.  Although he looks like a domestic rabbit, he has been living outdoors for quite some time and the farmer who often saw him on his property is looking forward to his potential return.

      Coco When She First Arrived

COCO arrived at Just Cats Sanctuary 5 weeks ago August 17th, 2007.  A 10 yr old cat who was emaciated, literally skin and bones, severely jaundiced, she was dying of liver failure.  Her mom and dad were wonderful people who spent the previous 2 weeks and countless amounts of money running back and forth to the vet trying to find out why coco was failing.  The only answer they received was liver failure, and there was nothing they could do.  Through our mutual mechanic, oddly, they found us and called begging for us to help, begging for another answer, some kind of hope.  After much counseling and meetings with coco's parents we took her on.  She came to us to get better, we all knew it was a severely guarded situation but knew we had to try.  We all knew the risks.  Coco had to be force fed around the clock, fluid therapy and a long list of holistic treatments were being used at this time since all traditional medicine had failed.  5 weeks of hard work, on both us and her and her parents being separated from her yielded a healing Coco.  She is no longer jaundice, her liver is working again, and she is eating on her own for the past 2 weeks.  She is loving, playful and vocal and wants so much love. In a few more weeks Coco will be reunited with her family.  She will go home, healthy, happy and with a new lease on life.....
